Small-group journeys · Four routes a year

Eight people, one guide, no coach

We plan a route around where it is worth waking up, then work backwards to the driving. It is slower. That is the entire product.

How we travel

Three rules we do not bend

Eight travellers, maximum

Nine needs a second vehicle, a second guide and a schedule. Eight fits one table at dinner, which changes what the week feels like.

Never more than four hours moving

A day spent covering ground is a day you will not remember. Every leg is planned to end somewhere worth arriving in the afternoon.

The guide stays the whole way

Not a local handover at each border. The person who meets you at the start is the person who sees you off.

Leg 01 — the crossing

Erg Chebbi

Four days of dune, ending each afternoon before the light goes. Camp is moved twice; the rest of the time you walk.

Leg 02 — the ascent

Val Bregaglia

Up out of the heat into larch and granite. Two high nights, one hut, and a lake that is colder than it looks in the photographs.

46.3°N 9.6°E5 daysJune · September

Leg 03 — the crossing back

The Inner Islands

Boat, not bus. Three anchorages, no roads on two of them, and the only fixed appointment all week is the tide.

4.6°S 55.4°E6 daysApril · November

Leg 04 — the last light

Cape Sounion

The route ends at a temple on a headland, deliberately, because it is the one place everybody stops talking.

Guides

The same person, start to finish

Our guides have each walked their route more than twenty times, in every season it runs. That is the difference between someone who can answer a question and someone who knows which afternoon the weather usually turns.

They carry the first-aid kit, the permits and the local phone numbers. You carry a day bag.
